TrueMed is a third-party service that helps you determine if your wellness treatment qualifies as a medical expense under IRS rules. Through a short health questionnaire, TrueMed connects you with a licensed provider who reviews your condition and, if appropriate, issues a Letter of Medical Necessity (LMN). That letter is what allows you to use your FSA or HSA funds for your purchase.

After your purchase, you’ll receive a secure link from TrueMed to complete a quick online questionnaire about your health condition; migraines, acne, weight loss, high blood pressure, blood circulation, scarring, back or neck pain, fibromyalgia, post surgery, anxiety, depression, stress and more. A licensed medical provider will review your responses. If your treatment qualifies as medically necessary, you’ll be issued an official Letter of Medical Necessity—which is required for FSA/HSA eligibility. (Most Spa Matrix services and memberships apply!)

If the medical provider reviewing your case determines your treatment doesn’t meet the criteria for medical necessity, you won’t receive the LMN, and the purchase wouldn’t be eligible for FSA/HSA coverage. You would still have the option to pay with Cherry Pay, a standard credit or debit card. There is no penalty or commitment for submitting the TrueMed questionnaire.
